Captain's Message 2019

Captain’s message 2020

As we have moved into 2020 we are getting nearer the new golfing season, always an exciting time. We look forward to playing with old friends and also meeting new people when we play in events away from our home club. As your new County Captain I am looking forward to meeting you all at our golfing events and your coffee mornings. I can’t guarantee what the weather will be like in 2020 but I can say that you will all get a very warm welcome at County competitions. We have a variety of singles, 4BBB and team events throughout the season giving members a chance to play many different courses during the year.

County Match Week this year is hosted by Northumberland at Foxton Hall on Monday 22nd – Friday 26th June. Your support of the Durham Team would be very well received by the team, the executive and by your Captain. Alnmouth is a great part of Northumberland to spend some time watching great golf.

I would like you all to follow the County Facebook page, which is Durham County Ladies Golf Association. During the year I will be posting photographs of our various events which I would appreciate your help in getting our Facebook page out to as many golfers as possible, also to non-golfers too.

Captain’s Charity

The charity I have chosen for 2020 is the Great North Air Ambulance, as they are entirely funded by charitable contributions.

When I took my mother to James Cook hospital for her check ups following stomach cancer, we were often stopped from leaving the car park by the Air Ambulance coming into the helipad. It was an amazing sight to see the speed of the staff taking the patient from the helicopter into the hospital.  After I discovered that the service was not funded in any way I thought this would be a great opportunity to support this valuable service.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) brings pioneering pre-hospital care to the scene, rescuing hundreds of severely injured or ill patients every year.

COVID-19 Update

What a start to the golfing season, something we never predicted. We have announced along with the Union that coaching and competitions for the County and juniors have been cancelled until 25th April, but we think with the Prime Minister’s briefing today (19th March) that we may have to look at cancelling events in May. The Executive have thought long and hard about making decisions.

We have listened the medical advice that is coming from the government and from England Golf and decided to cancel all league matches in April and May. As we are unsure as to what will happen in the next few months we are asking clubs not to rearrange these matches at the present time. Our main concern is the welfare of the members of the Association. We ask you to bear with us at the present time.
